John Mayer: Ranking His Albums From Worst To Best

1. Continuum (2006)

Continuum AlbumBest Track: Stop This Train Worst Track: Bold As Love Finally at the top of the summit we have Mayer€™s third studio album Continuum released in 2006. After the success of both Room for Squares and Heavier Things, people knew about John Mayer and people were now starting to get excited about what was coming next from this pop, rock star. One thing that helped Continuum to get number one was again, Mayer deciding to change his style for an album and make it unlike what we have seen previously. Although it might not have been as big as a switch from alternative to country, the Continuum album showed Mayer experimenting with the blues and hit it out of the park. There were early signs in Heavier Things, of Mayer slowing down his songs singing in a more alternative, blues style and focusing the songs on what the lyrics had to offer and not relying on catchy rifts. Continuum showed this new side to John Mayer, it was the start of him trying out different genres and in Continuum he capitalised with an album in which I struggled to find a worst track. Continuum produced the most singles out of a John Mayer album and yet, the songs that didn€™t make it were instant winners with fans absolutely adoring what Mayer had created, and it proved later on that he couldn€™t go one better in Battle Studies and frankly any future work as this proved to be his best album out. The first single which was released was €œWaiting On The World To Change€ it was if you like the goodbye track to Mayer€™s work in pop/rock as it gave a chilled back feeling while still addressing confronting issues. It did very well on the charts, selling a lot of copies and is still now associated as one of his best tracks. From then onwards this new blues style gave us some of Mayer€™s most cherished and loved songs. Songs that include €œGravity€, €œThe Heart of Life€, €œSlow Dancing In A Burning Room€, €œI Don€™t Trust Myself with Loving You€ and €œStop This Train€. All five songs are still known as some of the most favourite and really well-written pieces of music, Mayer created and yet not one of them managed to be a single. For the ones that were came success. Like every album Mayer released, the reviews were good and Mayer was again touted a musical success. But this album, just gave a lot more to the Mayer diehards like myself. Songs that I still think are his best and I wonder, if he will ever be able to repeat a feat like the Continuum album. Although it did face some great competition into making it at top spot, it deserves to be up there because although there will always be discussion, you€™d have to have some really good points to deny Continuum as Mayer€™s best piece of work. Hopefully we will be seeing a lot more of John Mayer for many years to come as you know you will never really be disappointed.
