Kanye West: 10 Best Songs You Haven't Heard
8. Street Lights
808s & Heartbreak remains one of Kanye’s most influential album’s, inspiring the dreary R&B of Frank Ocean and The Weeknd.
The album divided critics at the time but has since earned credit for its emotional use of auto-tune. Street Lights is the perfect example of that emotional auto-tune. The song uses vocal melodies and electronic synths to make you cry a lot.
The theme built off the idea of street lights representing the passing of time in a traumatic break-up’s cab ride. The lyrics contain glances at the idea of growth and lost opportunity. The wanting to stop life from moving incredibly fast is something we can all relate too.
Coming near the end of the album, the track plays as a form of acceptance in the context of the project.
