I don't know how these guys tracked Kanye down at a gas station, but in doing so they were able to capture a side of him that we rarely get to see. Obviously the presence of a camera phone made the moment public (and if you're Kanye, is there ever a private moment?), but these were not recognized members of the press or a crowd of celebrities or adoring fans at a concert--they were effectively paparazzi, vigilante video-journalists. And Kanye's polite but understandably curt treatment of them speaks volumes about his character.
This impromptu interview also does an excellent job of outlining the symbiotic relationship between Kanye and the media. "I know you guys are gonna photograph me, I know it makes a cool photo, I got a cool !*$% car, I got a dope !*$% outfit on, it's all good," he says. "But we're in this together. You help me influence, you help with the family, you help Kim's power and everything, so I'm not trying to be at you guys in any type of negative way, I don't want you to be negative to me, and I would prefer that we have a decent relationship." Yes, celebrities sign away their private lives when the become famous, and in the case of Kanye, who aspires to be the single most relevant person on the planet, there is no such thing as privacy. But that doesn't diminish his status as a human being deserving of respect.
Of course, the Lamborghini is the Kanye everyone knows. The real mystery is this: who was in the front seat?
