12. Double Rainbow
Another personal favourite, Double Rainbow really is the pièce de résistance of the album. The lyrics are beautifully crafted to create a relaxed yet meaningful track which really stands out amongst the other songs on the album. The song was written by Australian singer and songwriter, Sia who has written songs for artists such as Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé as well as having featured on tracks such as David Guetta's Titanium and Wild Ones by Flo Rida; both of which were huge hits and so it seems likely that Double Rainbow will follow suit. By far the most emotional song on the album, By The Grace Of God charts Katy's feelings after the end of her marriage to Russell Brand. Through the breakdown scene in her film Part Of Me, released last year, along with various interviews since the end of the marriage it has made clear that Katy really struggled to pick herself back up from it. This slow track is nothing like any of Katy's previous work and it deals with her heartbreak in a somewhat positive way as it focuses on the light at the end of the tunnel for her and the way she brought herself back to being herself after thoughts of suicide. As a big fan of Katy, for me this song is the best and most interesting on the album as it portrays a whole other layer of Katy that is seldom seen. Below is Katy's live version of the song sung at the Itunes festival. Rating: 4/5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX18-jLPZzc 14. Spiritual
Spiritual is one of the most interesting tracks on the album for various reasons. Firstly, the bridge sounds hugely similar to a couple of Robbie William's tracks and sounds like it possibly has been influenced by Let Me Entertain You, although how likely this is, is debatable. On top of this, the lyrics are mysterious and the song sounds more like a track from a girl band than an international superstar. However, it is interesting to see Katy trying a new style. Everyone remotely interested in Katy Perry or Russell Brand wants to know what really went on between them and in this song, Katy admits that both of the celebrity couple are to blame for the breakdown of their marriage. Although it is not said at any point what actually caused the breakup, it does seem like Katy may be partly to blame as she apologises to Russell in the song. The song is emotional yet remains a strong track on the album and it will be interesting to see how her die hard fans react to the song as many of them continue to believe that Katy did no wrong in the relationship.
