5. "Ladies Room" From Rock N Roll OVer, 1976
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNPgtrdA_Rs Back in the day when albums had two sides it was common for side one to possess the best tunes and this was certainly the case with R&R Over. The 2nd side of the album is largely forgettable but side one kicks some major butt with the exception of the awful Baby Driver, a Peter Criss mistake. This fourth track is a Simmons testosterone fest that features some of the demons best bass fret work of the era, a solid rocker with a memorable chorus that celebrates R&R excess, Gene Simmons style. Who can resist a lyric like this: Youre such a jewel in the rough, you wanna show me your stuff 4. "Almost Human" From Love Gun, 1977
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh-ZicFlrpo Some fans regard Love Gun as the last 'true' Kiss release with all of the original members in step with a common goal. The next studio album would be 1979's Dynasty, a disco tinged affair to the extent that the band toured in spangly Kiss disco costumes on a glittery disco stage. The track is a Simmons penned tune based on a hypnotic repeating riff and signature in-your-face melodic growl. Oddly, after having done some stellar solo work elsewhere on the album, lead guitarist Ace Frehley seems to get a little lost on this one and his abbreviated solo section would seem to suggest that the producers and Simmons agreed. Probably one of the most overlooked Gene Simmons tunes in the entire Kiss catalogue.
