Lana Del Rey: Her Best 10 Songs

5. YAYO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwEjRPB6a0o This song is a slow burner but repeated listens reveal why it makes the top five. It's the story of a young prostitute (I think) who will do anything for acceptance, love and that golden ticket out of Nowheresville. And if it proves one thing to the doubters it's this €“ she's a great singer, get over it. The band sound like something you'd hear in a lounge bar in Vegas, slow, controlled and unbelievably tight but the vocal and the lyric lift it to an entirely heroic space €“ this isn't misery, it's aspiration and features one of the greatest lines ever written in 'Hello Heaven, you are a tunnel lined with yellow lights, on a dark night'. Such hope, such belief that love will lift her out of a tight corner. This is the 'There is a light that never goes out' of 2013. Seriously, it's that good. Now have a listen,

What makes music fantastic? Star quality, amazing music, breathtaking lyrics and the ability to bring something new to the table, even if that means a new take on the classics. That's what I love to listen to and write about. As well as writing for What Culture, I occasionally write a blog http://tedney.blogspot.co.uk and sometimes use Twitter, but sparingly @TedneyNash
