Metal Allegiance Album: 10 Tracks Reviewed & Ranked

4. We Rock (Dio Cover)

Vocals: Mark Osegueda, Chris Jericho, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Alissa White-Gluz, Chuck Billy & Steve €œZetro€ Souza Lead & Rhythm Guitars: Alex Skolnick Bass: David Ellefson Drums: Mike Portnoy Additional Lead Guitar: Andreas Kisser, Phil Demmel & Gary Holt Just to cement the whole affair with a tribute paid to the greats and showing how it's done to future generations, what feels like everyone on all past songs team up to deliver a fantastically up-to-date version of Dio's landmark 'We Rock'. Emblazoned on everything from T-shirts to human flesh across the globe, such a simple statement has stood the test of time alongside Long Live Rock n' Roll, another brilliant supergroup cover by movie band-turned-tourers Steel Dragon, from 2001's Rock Star. Here it's straight-up 'Let the good times roll!' territory, and you can feel from the pace of the opening riff through the traded vocal lines, the recording studio would've been a place of absolute enjoyment when this was lay down. Few combinations of artists can add something to an original recording that's already carved itself into both rock and metal's history books, but by taking such a free-form and well-intentioned approach, every artist is firing on all cylinders, that energy creating the best version of this track there's been in years. And that multi-part trade-off solo between Skolnick, Kisser, Demmel and Holt? I'd pack a suitcase, because you're about to go on one HELL of a journey.
