Metallica: 10 Awesome Songs NO ONE Talks About
8. And Justice For All - And Justice For All
Most of the gripes to be had with And Justice for All have been virtually picked clean at this point.
While everyone is quick to bring up the shoddy production and the overall lack of bass from Jason Newsted, the songs still hold up as a natural extension of what Metallica's sound could become. However, the real mission statement for the record as a whole comes in the form of the title track.
Up until this point, this was Metallica's longest ever track, clocking in at just under 10 minutes. They do make it count though, with every single second being packed to the brim with riffs, from the moody opening chords to the amazing groove coming halfway through the song. For as much mudslinging gets thrown his way, Lars Ulrich's drum performance is actually the thing that ties everything together, as James Hetfield plays off of his snare hits like a machine gun.
So why haven't we heard anything about this one then? Simple, the band just don't want to play it anymore. Being one of the most daunting songs to remember, Hetfield in particular mentioned that he never wanted to play the song again because it was just too difficult to keep track of where you were in the song.
Being probably the closest thing to prog metal they have in their canon, And Justice for All is still one monster of a track that has to be heard to be believed.
