Metallica: 10 Awesome Songs NO ONE Talks About

3. Devil's Dance - ReLoad

Say what you want to about Metallica, but you can't say they aren't committed to their ideas. Even when Load seemed to meet a deaf ear with a number of fans, the decision to release the second helping of this style on ReLoad was definitely a bold choice. Though Fuel might be the closest the album got to a return to form, Devil's Dance is where the heaviness comes back into play.

For the most part, Metallica were never really ones to write about demons all that often, instead looking to the real life horrors to fuel their material.

On the other hand, this tale of winding up in hell has an amazing amount of attitude, as Hetfield turns bluesy bends into the sound of demons crawling up from the underworld. Being in the same key as Sad But True, this feels like the natural extension of that track, with a focus more on the heaviness of the riff rather than how fast you play it.

After all, this may have been preparing us for the cooldown that comes on the remainder of the record, with the pop single The Unforgiven II literally coming up right afterwards. From the title alone, ReLoad was certainly not going to win back all the Metallica's fans in one go, but for this song, there was potential, right?
