At the end of the day, what you leave behind for your family and what others know you for is collectively called your legacy. While both Metallica and Megadeth are arguably the two very best heavy metal music acts of the past 30 years, their respective legacies will always be in stark contrast to each other. One group was immensely more successful than the other, but both groups will be remembered as trailblazers of the metal community. In the end, Megadeth will be remembered for always being "more metal" than Metallica. Megadeth has always stayed true to the metal genre, not deviating like Metallica to try new musical styles or even create and blend music with a symphony. Megadeth will also always been known for being 100% Dave Mustaine's baby. And with that its legacy will remain somewhat tarnished by Mustaine's frequent relapses from sobriety, along with his reputation for being uncompromising when it relates to Megadeth's wellbeing, and the state of the brand that he single-handedly created. For Metallica, it's clear that their legacy will continue long after they are gone. The band continues to release quality music on a semi-regular basis of every five years or so, and they tour the world nearly every single year, from European festival shows, to their own annual Orion music event. They will forever be linked to trying to keep the public from downloading music, and they will forever be known for bringing heavy metal music out of the garage and onto mainstream radio and television, all the way to the global masses. http://youtu.be/_7oZyWt7pGg So what say you, metalheads?
