Metallica: Kill ‘Em All - Ranking Every Song Worst To Best

7. Metal Militia

As you reach the very end of Kill Em All, there are probably some fairweather metal fans who were starting to get tired of the same old schtick played out over and over again. Even though one song is radically different from the next, Metallica would have been considered a one trick pony if they kept making records like this every other year. Metallica sees your criticism though, and they raise you Metal Militia, with one of the most bonkers riffs of their entire career.

Although there's nothing insanely fast compared to what we'd already seen on the record, the central riff of this song is set to a warped gallop rhythm, that almost feels like it should be part of some swinging blues jam than an actual metal song. Compared to what we had been hearing so far, this is the kind of thing that you get if you crossed a band like ZZ Top with Black Sabbath, with enough swagger to spare.

After 9 tracks of metal mayhem though, Metallica aren't going to leave you just yet, grabbing you by the throat with their fury and pulling you to the finish as the sound of soldiers' boots stampede over your eardrums. Now you've arrived at the finish, just to get up and play the entire album over again.
