Metallica: Kill ‘Em All - Ranking Every Song Worst To Best
2. Seek & Destroy
And now we have the fan favorite that hasn't lost its luster over the years. From the opening riffs of Seek & Destroy, you can still hear the crowd go absolutely insane whenever it's fired up in concert. Which is strange considering that this is probably the only song on the record that could be considered downtempo.
Yeah, when you look at the rest of the songs on here, the groove of Seek & Destroy is almost tame, sitting somewhere between the downpicking of punk and the brooding ominousness of a Black Sabbath song. In fact, the main groove behind the song almost sounds like the Ramones if they were slowed way the hell down and gotten a lot more distortion pedals back in the day.
That's just the instrumentation though...the real star of the show is that chorus, which never fails to ignite the crowd, either in a garage or in a packed arena. There's a reason why James leaves space between "searching" and "seek and destroy"...it's because he's expecting an answer back from the crowd. While most of the greatest Metallica songs are etched in history on vinyl, this is the kind of track that only gets better when it's on the live stage.
