Metallica New Album: 10 Old-School Thrash Lessons They Need To Relearn
6. Learning From The New School
The point of Metallica's new record would be to take things back to their roots as a gnarly thrash metal band. Though they have toyed with their sound ever since the Black Album, there's nothing like the maniacal riffs from the old school thrash metal days. However, sometimes you need to focus on the future of metal if you want to get in touch with the past.
For as much as Metallica might aim to sound heavy, it might be healthy to take cues from the new school of metal bands that have been coming up the ranks after them. While there had been the band flirting with alternative tendencies on Load and Reload, it's probably best if they try to collaborate with some of the more contemporary METAL acts of today.
In lieu of copying someone like Nirvana or Alice in Chains, Metallica could get back in touch with their original fury if they collaborated with someone like Mastodon, who's meaty riffs would work perfectly with the band's thrashy tendencies.
Even a collaboration with a new band like Ghost could remind Hetfield and Ulrich why they fell in love with metal in the first place. It's been a long time since Metallica got the ball rolling, but it might just take one look at the new kids on the scene to remind them of their initial drive.
