Metallica's 11th Album: 10 Things Fans NEED To See

9. Balance Of Songs

The latest Metallica releases have been some of the best metal they have made in years. Though the riffs on Death Magnetic and Hardwired have been to die for, each of these albums have suffered from a fatal flaw. With Death Magnetic's bloated runtimes and Hardwired's double album rollout, this next record calls for a more balanced approach to the song structure.

I can see where the band's mindset was for stretching the length of time, but sometimes it prevents some good songs from becoming great because of how lethargic they can feel. With this next album, it might be time to go back to the formula of Master of Puppets by making only 8 or 9 epic tracks instead of 15 drawn out exercises.

You might not be getting as much material as you did on the last few records, but what you do have in front of you would be higher quality than the metal you've gotten on the last few outings.

By sticking with the right amount of slow and heavy moments, the band could create something that holds together as a sonic statement rather than just a slapdash bunch of songs. It's a tough balancing act to pull off, but if any metal band could, it's Metallica.
