Nirvana: 10 Facts You Didn't Know About In Utero
8. In Utero Had To Be Re-Mixed Before Being Released
The mix version of In Utero was not well received by the band's record company, Geffen Records. Rumors that Nirvana had recorded an "unreleasable" album with producer Steve Albini began spreading, with Albini getting much of the blame.
Many, including Nirvana's record label, disliked the original mix of In Utero. Cobain was told the album was unlistenable, with Kurt going as far as to say he felt numb when he listened to the original mix for the first time.
Steve Albini was originally asked to remix a few songs, but he denied the offer. All of the songs on the record besides Heart-Shaped Box, All Apologies and Pennyroyal Tea were remixed by producer Scott Litt, who was asked to come in.
With Litt's assistance, it's this version that was finally released on September 21, 1993.
