Oasis What's The Story - Every Song Ranked
9. Hey Now!
While the Britpop tag suits the band very well, Oasis also had talent for harder genres like alternative rock. Coming midway through the record, "Hey Now!" is one of the germs of harder rock that the band toyed with during this era.
The whole song has a classic British pop melodic structure reminiscent of Slade, but the chorus has a much darker tone to it that hints at another influence. It's almost as if the actual chorus owes a lot more to classic rockers like Neil Young than it does to the Stone Roses.
The tune also possesses a much more atmospheric feeling, with a midtempo groove that makes the listener feel like their floating in a drug-fueled haze. Liam's vocal also rests perfectly on top of the music as it sounds like it's coming from the other side of your subconscious.
Given that "Hey Now!" comes after the album's two biggest hits, the track tends to be easily forgotten as just another album track. However, this track's fantastic melody and dark turns give the listener more insight into the mind of Noel Gallagher during the writing sessions for the record.
