http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSqRJbA9Duo From the opening piano chords and Harveys trademark vocals, its very tempting to think of White Chalk as the soundtrack to a Victorian Ghost story. From her ghost like appearance on the cover, to titles like The Devil and Silence, there is something very sinister, yet beautiful about this album. Harvey learnt to play the piano whilst recording the album, so many of the songs are based around the instrument, with very little bass, guitar or even drums. Harveys vocals are so quiet and high, its almost like shes echoing a little girl singing, which adds to the story behind the album. White Chalk is by no means an easy listen, but what Harvey sacrifices in easy listening she makes up for in depth.
