Radiohead: Every Album Ranked Worst To Best
3. A Moon Shaped Pool
Radiohead's most recent album A Moon Shaped Pool is heavy going, but hell if it isn't one of their best. Released after Thom Yorke's break-up with his long-time partner, the record is heavy on melancholy but also high on musical excellence.
With less of a focus on heavy, rock-inspired riffs or zany experiments, A Moon Shaped Pool is much like all of the band's best work: Easy to listen to despite the emotional poignancy, and best heard in one sitting, eyes closed and mind open.
As noted, it's a more straightforward album than, say, OK Computer, but that doesn't mean it's lacking a wide range of compelling sounds. Ful Stop is a haunting tune with a great progressive beat, Identikit is harrowing in both lyrics and tone, and Decks Dark is bursting with vivid imagery.
It's moody, dreamy, sad, briefly hopeful and enrapturing, telling a long and winding story of heartbreak as only Radiohead ever could. Here's to hoping they release a follow-up soon.
