Ramones: 15 Best Songs (That Weren't From The Original Lineup)
13. Howling At The Moon (Sha-La-La)
Album: Too Tough to Die (1984)
Lineup: Joey, Johnny, Richie, Dee Dee
Too Tough to Die is one of the Ramones' very best albums, in addition to being one of their single most aggressive. In spite of its overall two-fisted tone, however, the album was also more than capable of slowing things down every once in a while and providing a more melodious sound. Nowhere was this more evident than in Howling at the Moon.
Utilizing a synthesizer alongside the Ramones' own instruments, Howling at the Moon mixes the band's trademark punk rock sound with that of '80s synthpop. Surprisingly, this actually works very well, which in turn helps this become one of the band's most unique and memorable tracks.
Also, Joey Ramone had a genuine talent for using basic words and sounds to create insanely memorable choruses and Howling at the Moon is a prime example of that. His vocals are great through the entire song, but it's just about impossible to resist singing along as he bellows "sha-la-la."
