5. Masha And The Bear: Recipe For Disaster

The Russian TV show, Masha and the Bear has become an international sensation. The episode, Recipe for Disaster, is the only entry on this list to not be a music video. Of its many episodes spanning 4 seasons, several have view counts in both the hundred millions and billions. They are also broadcast on channels such as NBCUniveral, Netflix and Teletoon.
The show focuses on the adventures of a young girl named Masha and a kindly, paternal bear that always makes sure to keep her out of trouble. The episode centres on the bear enjoying a game of checkers with himself when Masha requests some food. The bear prepares her some porridge which the youngster goes on to not enjoy at all. Irritated, the bear steps outside to continue his game in peace. Masha then proceeds with cooking for herself, a decision that predictably ends in total disaster. After making an explosive mess, Masha closes the episode out with the declaration: “Oh, I’ve made such a cruel gruel!”
The series is produced by the Animaccord Animation Studio in Moscow. Debuting in 2009, the series was initially intended to be a more local series, custom made to suit its Russian audience. Director Dmitry Loveyko has since confirmed that approximately two thirds of the series’ YouTube royalties are thanks to views outside of Russia.
