Ranking All 13 Madonna Studio Albums From Worst To Best
3. Confessions On A Dance Floor (2005)
Madonna's dance album is the highest ranking of her releases since the turn of the millennium.
Her tenth studio album was a huge step away from previous record American Life, and found musical influence in the 70s and 80s disco sound, modernising these influences for the early 2000s.
Lead single 'Hung Up' was the most successful dance song of the decade according to Billboard. It managed to top the charts in 41 countries, and samples ABBA's hit song, 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)' for its infectious beat.
The album manages to keep this irresistibly fun tone early on, whilst slowly delving in to some darker and more personal insecurities with its lyrics in later tracks.
Driven by the production of its beats, the album doesn't fall foul of losing Madonna in the noise, like later efforts, and manages to find the sweet spot of balancing Madonna's appeal and vocal ability with these incredible backing tracks.
An impressive return to Madonna's best, and one she has yet to return to in the 13 years since, Confessions on a Dance Floor serves as a prime example of Madonna's adaptability and desire to remain relevant, contemporary, and, more importantly, to create great music.
