Ranking All 13 Madonna Studio Albums From Worst To Best
11. American Life (2003)
This album was created while Madonna, in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks, was thinking profoundly about the world she was living in as an American celebrity.
Given the politically charged nature of the entire country at the time, Madonna started to question the ideals of the American Dream and the society she found herself a spokesperson for.
She also saw the end of an eleven year record deal with Maverick Records, and took this album as an opportunity to also write about her past 20 years as a performer.
'Die Another Day' works really well, especially as a Pierce Brosnan era Bond theme, and is a surefire highlight. While tracks such as 'American Life' and 'Hollywood' tackle the thoughts and feelings of Madonna about her position and her nation, the album comes off as incredibly bleak.
