Ranking All 13 Madonna Studio Albums From Worst To Best
9. Music (2000)
This album was a big departure from previous record Ray of Light, and saw Madonna move in to a more electronic and dance-pop focused production.
However, she took many influences from rock and country music, with the album cover depicting her new image reinvention as a cowgirl.
While the album received positive critical reception and performed very well commercially, selling 4 million copies in ten days, the album doesn't hold up as well as some of her other works, definitely feeling like a product of its time.
Lead single 'Music' shows this not only in its sound, but also in its video, which famously includes Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G character.
However, 'What It Feels Like for a Girl" stands out on the album for having such a poignant feminist message, and withstands any ageing thanks to its strong message.
It plays so much better than the previous entries on this list, but of her best works, it just isn't as iconic or impressive. Despite the inspired production and beats used in each track, the album seems to downplay Madonna herself and almost lose her amongst the noise.
