Travis Barker is at his best here, and it's possibly the first time in his tenure with the band that he truly made his presence felt as the backbone of Blink. Until this point he was just a drummer with breakneck speed, but on Feeling This he switches back and forth between multiple, unique beats, starting with a John Bonham-style bass drum bonanza and incorporating both a cowbell and a hip-hop beat in the chorus to provide some incredible textures. And the production team opened up a very big bag of tricks in the effects department, using flangers and various other distortions on every instrument. Even with all the flashiness and flair, though, Feeling This is an undoubtedly smooth transition from the goofy band of old to a newer, slightly more sophisticated Blink. It's not all happy-go-lucky kookiness; there's something more under the surface. This is a summer anthem with a wistful soul. It's Blink-182 being both fun and substantive, two things which rarely meld in the band's discography, but which feel so, so right together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kMZ23T9VHE
