OK Go: Every Concept Video Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Needing/Getting

In terms of complexity, how do you top a synchronized treadmill dance routine, a warehouse full of chain reaction mechanisms, or a one shot video that lasts for 18 hours? It's easy, really. Throw together an obstacle course of makeshift musical instruments and drive a rally car through it to perfectly recreate your song. Live.

Due to the nature of the video, all of the instrumentation heard is on a live track. So what's happening onscreen is legitimately creating the melody of the song. They "simply" hooked up some pneumatic arms (which the band controls from inside the car) to the sides and top of the car that would connect with everything from upturned pianos to wind chimes and plastic barrels.

Oddly enough, the subtle imperfections of the jury-rigged instruments add a ton of texture that wasn't in the original recording of "Needing/Getting." It ends up being a better song than the version without 30 or so lopsided pianos.

Continuing their streak of marketing other products via music video, Chevrolet sponsored the full-length video as a Super Bowl commercial, allowing the band to beat up their Chevy Sonic for the good of music.  You can watch them plan and set up the course in this video.
