Saliva: 50 Best Songs From Their Career (So Far)

3. "Your Disease" - Every Six Seconds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7z2lJhaFds Another promising single off of Every Six Seconds, "Your Disease" set the bar for Saliva's breakthrough into that hard rock lifestyle they later sung about in Survival Of The Sickest. By now I've probably praised Every Six Seconds in every possible way up to this point, because I find it to be Saliva's tipping point in music, despite the release being early in their career. They had and still have a passionate understanding of how music should work and be framed in the mindset of an everyday person, and their sophomore album succeeded in doing so. "Your Disease", another single off the album, was promoted as this very punk-ish, psychedelic song that showcased Josey Scott's rap-rock talent to a T. It was very formulaic in how it structured itself as a hard rock song, but with an alternative mix thrown in. It blended and blurred genres, in other words. But what's most peculiar about "Your Disease" is the foretelling of Saliva's later steps into their career. In my mind, I see the band singing the song as if they're hooked on the idea of performing rock 'n' roll, that they thrive off of thrilling the fans and aiming to make the best out of the rock genre as a whole. While they were already rockstars at that stage in time, their prevalence at using their rockstar attitudes as a crutch for their early career really set in stone this defined path for the band. Think of "Your Disease" as one of the first stepping stones for Saliva ("Click Click Boom" as well). More importantly, think of Every Six Seconds as the ultimate stepping stone for music genre-bending.
