Saliva: 50 Best Songs From Their Career (So Far)

34. "Beg" - Saliva/Every Six Seconds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roM8hb6gY4U The darkness of Saliva's earliest lyrics have stood the test of time. So much so that they decided to remaster two of their original works for Every Six Seconds, one of which is "Beg". When I first heard "Beg", I honestly didn't care for it. Saliva had a tendency to throw down some interesting lyrics, but at times they could get muddled. "Beg" was in the latter stage when first heard, but understanding it more and more brought in the clarity for me. From my perspective, "Beg" rocks along aggressively both instrumentally and lyrically, preaching about putting down all your hard and dedication, only to have come back and throw you down hard on the pavement. Simply put, it talks of a life lesson, earning respect and ignoring the demeanors of naysayers. One of Saliva's more deceptive songs, it's more than entertaining thanks to its remaster on Every Six Seconds. Give it a listen, and see what your interpretation ends up being.

33. "Redneck Freakshow" - In It To Win It

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUUH-_faQbg Nothing makes a better live song than an interactive tune that the crowd itself can get into. Saliva is known to perform some of these anthem-ringers, and their latest attempt at hard rock glory provides yet another entry for the crowd and another off their eighth studio album, In It To Win It. "Redneck Freakshow" couldn't possibly be a bigger example of the live band/bar-scene. With Saliva touring small in town bars yielding people to come on down to share some tunes and drinks with, a fresh course of anthem songs would fit the scene perfectly. "Redneck Freakshow" is all about the crowd scene; it's almost like Saliva's way of saying, "Welcome to the show, get ready to rock your asses off." Fiendishly putting the redneck lifestyle into perspective, "Redneck Freakshow" is a fist-pumper and made all the better by Bobby Amaru's mesmerizing vocals and voice.

32. "How Could You?" - Cinco Diablo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJqYZL16RaY Sometimes bands sing better when being pertinent to one certain theme. Their mostly homely theme is that of internal emotion and languishing in self-dread, ultimately succumbing to the lowest form of weakness. What could be more weakening than discovering your spouse is/was cheating on you? Coming from the near-weakened (sorry) Cinco Diablo, "How Could You?" reaches to those who have unfortunately fell into that personal and dark hole to unearth the horrible truth about their loved ones. Saliva's true achievement with this song is the utter somberness that is beholden here; it's light on on the guitar and slow on drums, with Scott's voice once again sinking with deep emotion. It may come as no surprise to some that Josey is reliving hard times when applying his voice. As much emotion as Saliva is known to drip from their material, How Could You? might be labeled as one of their most gripping to some.
