37. "Pride" - Back Into Your System
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ7X9K8TuLo Saliva has always prided (no pun intended) themselves at making music with solid themes and ground to stand on. During the early stages of their career (1997-2002), these themes manifested into strong riffs and fundamental lyrics that personified Saliva as a cohesive, talented collection of guys. With their third studio album, Back Into Your System, all the strands came together perfectly. "Pride" trills an obvious theme of patriotism. While detailing the pride of America, in Saliva's own words, the tune goes to personal depths when you find out it's a year and one month after the events of 9/11. So on a basic connection level, Pride ranks up there with any song that could be used an a device to help ease hard times and remind those who are scared to stand strong and stare your foes and demons down. 36. "Going Under" - Blood Stained Love Story
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GF0UlgVPiE I'll always have a personal connection with Blood Stained Love Story. The album as a whole marks an pivotal moment in my life, but more important it's written in nice, dramatic fashion. The amount of emotion and zest on the album is heard on each track, and the emotion nearly peaks with "Going Under". A song about sinking within yourself to find an empty version of what you once were, "Going Under" is one of those tear-jerking songs that was meant to tear into your soul and open up conversations within your own mind of whether or not you're really capable of doing the things you want, or need, to do. It's about realizing failure and accepting that failure, and looking inside to find the only shelter you've ever known: under the skin, deep within the bones. To date, I find it to be one of Saliva's most emotionally transcending songs. It solidly strikes a few chords, and could sometimes make you wonder about yourself in the process.
35. "Southern Girls" - Cinco Diablo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuOCdJkkJN4 Another contestant from the average/abysmal sixth studio album, Cinco Diablo, "Southern Girls" is perhaps one of the most wildly inventive Saliva songs outside of their typical emotional crutches. It's no surprise that Saliva is a band that bases itself on its rockstar roots, declaring a party hard lifestyle in the early days and waking up between two girls every other morning. Many years later, maybe they thought it was a good idea to give back to one of their inspirations behind that lifestyle: good ol' southern girls. While not complex nor intricate in its design it's a simple song to follow along with, offering sexy rhymes and visual lyrics that sooth the listener to Saliva's love for those special kind of girls. And I'm willing to bet they play this song live exclusively in the southern states....
