Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind: Every Song Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Insert Coin

Death, taxes, and a Slipknot album kicking off with an atmospheric intro track: these are life's three certainties.

Structurally, "Insert Coin" is textbook Slipknot; sonically, it isn't. Scrambled electronics lead into a synthesised, futuristic soundscape that's borderline uplifting in tone. It feels bright - hopeful, almost - until a wave of noise rolls through, with Corey Taylor introducing his "I'm counting all the killers" refrain for the first time - a detail that becomes more important later on.

It won't unsettle you like previous Slipknot album openers, but "Insert Coin" is a worthwhile appetite-whetter for the wild ride to come.
