Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind: Every Song Ranked From Worst To Best

11. My Pain

"My Pain" will prove itself one of We Are Not Your Kind's more divisive tracks when fan reactions start hitting the internet. It's comfortably the most experimental piece the band have ever released and the most dramatic departure from Slipknot's core sound found on WANYK, but it works by juxtaposing relative serenity with the band's deep, foreboding menace.

Starting akin to a post-rock track with shimmering lead notes hanging over deeper, darker, bassier reverberations, it's creepy, but in a different way. "My Pain" eschews filth for a claustrophobic sci-fi-like atmosphere before the percussion kicks in. From there, things feel more like trip-hop, with the track resembling like a distant cousin of Massive Attack's I Against I before Taylor's vocals kick in with "I'm your friend, and I'm your shade."

Slipknot bring the noise at roughly four minutes in. From there, "My Pain" becomes an overwhelming aura experience. Almost seven minutes of pure ambience close with scrapes and a pounding bass one would expect from a Blade Runner soundtrack.
