Sonisphere 2014: 10 Reasons It's Going To Be Festival Of The Year
10. Metallica Are Playing 'By Request'
Metallica are one of those world-conquering, omnipresent bands that have a back catalogue so large they've released just as much quality as absolute tosh (watch it! - Ed.). Whilst witnessing a headline set of theirs, an ordinary festival crowd would endlessly bay for 'Enter Sandman' and 'Fuel' before retreating to a caravan or an another form of festival accommodation that requires a steady working income to purchase. On the other hand, any diehard moshers may lick their sweaty lips in preparation for the thrashier moments, revelling in the down picked riffage of 'Master Of Puppets' or 'Battery' as a precursor to a drunken mud bath. Chin stroking musos can take yet another perspective, waiting for the exquisitely-crafted melodies and song structures of 'One' and 'Fade To Black' whilst subtly head-bobbing and sipping a pint of real ale. In short, Metallica have songs that can appeal to all kinds of people and as a result, many often walk away disappointed about what was left out. Luckily this year's Sonisphere will be different. Upon the purchase of a ticket on the official website, fans are asked to select their preferred Metallica songs, of which the band will pick the most popular ones and form a setlist for their performance. Of course, this still means that the classics will be top of the list, but at the same time, it opens up the possibility for rarer songs to become part of Knebworth folklore. Black Album obsessives could re-discover 'Don't Tread On Me' or 'The God That Failed', pit inhabitants could flail about to 'Damage Inc' and musical analysts could stroke their chin-hairs to 'The Frayed Of Sanity' and 'Disposable Heroes'. Every vote counts.
