Sonisphere 2014: 10 Reasons It's Going To Be Festival Of The Year

9. Iron Maiden Will Bring The Ultimate Stage Show

The biggest cult band in the world are always a surefire source of unabashed spectacle and shamelessly over-the-top stage antics. Whether frontman Bruce Dickinson is proving his position as the most active 55 year old in the country, the band's colossal mascot Eddie is peaking his head out from behind liberally decorated backdrop art, or guitarist Janick Gers is hurling his axe a mile into the air and then catching it like a rugby ball, the band ensures that their songs are accompanied by fascinating visuals every time. As recent as last year's Download, the start of their set was signalled with a flyover from a deafeningly loud Spitfire fighter jet, which forced all Donington attendees to prick up their ears and sprint towards the sounds of opener 'Moonchild'. In short, Maiden are always fun, timeless and consistent. As of yet, there's no word as to what bombastic surprises the band have in store for Sonisphere, but rest assured it's bound to be an utter treat for the eyeballs.
