The Beatles: 10 Perfect Non-Single Tracks

9. While My Guitar Gently Weeps: The Beatles (1968)

It speaks to the sheer amount of quality material the Beatles had, that one of their greatest and most loved songs was only issued as a b-side. The late '60s harboured some of the group's most celebrated music, but it was a time when the band 's dynamic was fractured. For one, George Harrison was becoming increasingly hesitant to show his work to his band mates due to their perceived lack of interest.

Harrison was big into Eastern philosophy and spiritualism during this period, and his lyrics reflected his sadness at the world's untapped potential for love. Not only that, but his most tender song also reflected his isolation from the group.

During the initial recordings of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" Lennon and McCartney were so unenthusiastic that Harrison shelved the track, returning to record it later with the help of non-other than Eric Clapton who contributed the lead guitar part.

With Clapton in the mix, the other members felt motivated to up their game, resulting in one of the finest songs on the White Album and indeed in the entire Beatles back catalogue.
