The Beatles: 10 Perfect Solo Albums

8. Double Fantasy - John Lennon

Once John Lennon got off of his lost weekend, he returned to New York a changed man. After reconnecting with Yoko Ono after a long separation, he wasn't looking to play the rock star game anymore, staying in for years to raise his son Sean as Yoko tended to the business side of their lives. When he did decide to return to recording though, we got a much more peaceful look at John on Double Fantasy.

Coming off of a terrible experience sailing, these songs almost work as a dialogue between both John and Yoko, alternating between every song about how their relationship has been working for the past few years. As much as some of these songs sound middle aged compared to John's earlier work, you can hear him getting more comfortable settling into domestic life, like being comfortable seeing the world go by on Watching the Wheels or the joy that he gets by tucking Sean into bed on Beautiful Boy.

Although Yoko's songs can be a more acquired taste and even borrow from disco in a few places, John still is smitten by her on these songs, knowing the mistakes he's made and willing to own up to what he has done on a song like Woman. The angry John Lennon from a few years before isn't here that much, but that's okay. His time on this Earth wasn't very long after this, but it's at least nice for Fab fans to know that he found some sort of peace as the years went on.
