The Kinks: Their 10 Greatest Songs

6. Sunny Afternoon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIKsHh3BFPI Taken from the album: Face To Face (1966) "Sunny Afternoon" was released as a single in the UK in June 1966 and eventually climbed to No. 1 on the 7th July 1966, remaining there for two weeks. In America, the track was also popular, peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in Autumn, 1966. "Sunny Afternoon" is an astonishingly well crafted pop song which deals with mature issues while remaining foot-tappingly delectable. Both political and satirical, the lyrics tell the story of a man who although he has lost everything, his girl, his car and most of his money to Britain's high taxes, is still able to enjoy the simple pleasures of drinking a beer, on a sunny afternoon during the beautiful British summer. A pass-time which is imbedded in British culture to this day and is as part of English national identity as fish and chips and morris dancing (and ever so slightly more enjoyable than morris dancing).

I love Heavy Metal, and generally anything that involves a guitar and loud noises, so I figured it was about time I put all the useless information in my head to good use and start writing a few things. Most of the time I'll be writing nonsense but occasionally I may surprise myself and appear half-way knowledgable.....but you can be the judge of that. Thanks for your fleeting attention!
