9. Death Grips The Money Store
Though
Death Grips released (and I use the term loosely given the shenanigans around
No Love Deep Web) two albums this year, the stand out of the pair was, and is,
The Money Store. Coming early-ish in the year, you can see
my review of it for how much I gushed over this album, it helped to get 2012 into its stride as
Death Grips built on the intensely visceral sound they arrived with, via
Ex Military. This development in themselves saw
Death Grips arrive with a greater depth; whether it was the disturbing electronic soundscapes taking place of samples, experimentation in melody and accessibility, a more stream line flow to the album as a whole or the further burrowing into the violent aggression they were already channelling on
Ex Military. Almost un-pigeonhole-able
Death Grips have taken rap, hip hop, noise rock, punk, industrial and electronica to create something enjoyably extreme and extremely enjoyable.
Key tracks Get Got, The Fever (Aye Aye), Ive Seen Footage, Bitch Please http://youtu.be/DigtCrO77L8
