Throwback: 10 Best Metal Albums Of 2000

7. Nile - "Black Seeds Of Vengeance"

A one of a kind descent into the darkest depths of death metal, Nile's "Black Seeds of Vengeance" was an imperfect yet critical release for a band who are now giants of their genre. It represented Nile's transition from a deathgrind band with the odd Egyptian nuance, to the fully-fledged Egyptian-themed technical death metal behemoths they are today.

Nile are masters of their genre, as one of the heaviest hitting bands in metal still to this day. Their technical genius ranks them amongst the highest and has a nicely developed sense of catchiness that, admittedly, can take a while to root itself, but it's definitely worth persevering with.

Critics may claim that the Middle Eastern influences are a bit cheesy, or the technicality of the record is too flashy, but those Egyptian elements are never overbearing and the tech-death influences are well placed and not foreboding. Nile display their influences coherently and constantly which is seldom seen in the death metal genre. It's doubtful that Nile knew the greatness of "Black Seeds of Vengeance" while they were creating it, which only makes it more of an admirable feat. This is Nile at their finest, in primal and primitive form.
