When Tom Baker Met The Human League

1. A Great Tribute To A Great Doctor

Well now. How many other Doctors can claim to have inspired a piece which stands as a sound sculpture of themselves and their performance in the role? It's certainly odd and undoubtedly brooding. Listen again, though, and Tom's natural skittishness shines through in some of the ' stings'. It's almost as if the Human League built on Ibrahim Namin's Sutekh- summoning organ dirge from ' Pyramids Of Mars' and imbued it with the character of arguably the most loved of the eleven incarnations of the Doctor, a feat worthy of the man. There's also the undoubted bonus that if you listen often enough it becomes stuck in your head, a most welcome earworm, as it allows you to pretend that you yourself are under that iconic scarf putting a stop to Sutekh, or doing your level best not to ogle Leela in her Sevateem warrior's skin as you attempt to explain to her how the TARDIS works in ' The Robots Of Death'. And if that doesn't seal the deal nothing will, quite frankly.
