Tool: 10 Albums We Waited For Longer Than The New Album
8. Glassjaw - Material Control (~15 Years)
Glassjaw were one of several bands that benefited from Ross Robinson's personal redemption in the early 2000s. The legendary producer, who was instrumental in the rise of nu metal from his work with Slipknot, Korn and Limp Bizkit, grew to dislike the movement that he created and began focusing his efforts on the budding post-hardcore scene.
Blending New York hardcore with jazz, heavy metal and experimentation, Glassjaw's opus came in sophomore effort Worship and Tribute in 2002 and is heralded as one of the 2000s best albums and most influential albums in punk. As was scarily common at the time, Glassjaw decided to disband shortly after the album's release (see also At the Drive-In and Refused).
In late 2017, Amazon leaked details of a speculative new album due December that year. The leak came to fruition with the release of triumphant Material Control, an almost throwback blend of noise rock, alt metal and post-hardcore.
A thunderous effort that saw more than one person redraft their end of year list, the team of Daryl Palumbo, Justin Beck and former Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Billy Rymer have made the new benchmark for hardcore music that will undoubtedly inspire a whole new (angry) generation.
