16. Joe Satriani Unstoppable Momentum
The man, the myth, the living legend that is Joe Satriani continues to exude the characteristics of a six-string messiah, putting out yet another album of intricately composed guitar-fuelled tracks that make the rest of us question were actually playing the same instrument. Satch is as flawless as they come, slaying in the live arena just as much as on-record, and with a fair share of shred in his back-catalogue, on more recent releases you can tell hes just having fun experimenting with different tonalities and themes. 2010s Black Swans & Wormhole Wizards saw Professor Satchifunkilus (genuinely an album name!) tone things down and pad out his compositional possibilities, and its most definitely an approach hes furthered here. From the gorgeous progression of the title track, to the quixotic and quirkily-infectious Three Sheets to the Wind, and back to the Route 66-lone-American-ranger-swagger of Shine On American Dreamer, its truly a sumptuous collection of tracks that further cements Satrianis place as one of the greatest players there will ever be.
