9. I Want It All

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pm4fQRl72k It's hard to imagine just what Freddie Mercury might think of this song being used to sell 'Allianz Health Insurance' in 2012 but whether the "adventure seeker" that Mercury speaks of in the song was likely to accept such products is doubtful. The song has also featured in popular video games such as Rock Band and Madden NFL 12 and has somewhat of a similar reputation in Sport's cultures €“ like Ice Hockey and American Football €“ shared by more infamous Queen tracks. The song is the first single from 'The Miracle' and also marked the band's first single release (at that time) since 1986's 'One Year Of Love' from the 'A Kind of Magic Album' €“ since the latter was neither released as a single in the UK, nor had a music video made for it, this was one of the first opportunities for many audiences to see Freddie Mercury on their screens in nearly three years. Reports at the time mentioned his weight loss and dramatic change in appearance (Mercury had removed his trademark mustache and instead grew a stubble like beard while also wearing different clothing than was expected) although no health concerns were officially mentioned by the band. During the 'Greatest Hits 2' DVD commentary both Brian May and Roger Taylor mention that by the time this video was shot (sometime in late 1989, after the promotional material for The Miracle album had been shot separately) Mercury's health was already quite bad and they were personally surprised that it didn't show in the video. May also remarks during the same commentary that his unusual decision to write a small vocal harmony for himself in the middle eight of this track €“ on which Mercury sings everything else €“ was "very Pete Townsend of him" and he'd almost forgotten he ever did it.

Recently I've been writing pieces on my favourite topics which have included obscure theme music from nostalgic shows, Guns N' Roses and a few other surprises I'll be happy to share in time!
