Top 5 Rock Albums Of 2013
1. Queens Of The Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
I'm sure it is no surprise that this and AM landed in the top two spots but deservingly so. Especially when you consider Alex Turner and Josh Homme appear on each others albums. ...Like Clockwork was 6 years in the making and is arguably Queens' most focused album to date. The songs flow into each other and are dark and brooding. But I suppose that's what happens when your bandleader literally comes back from the dead.
I would have to say ...Like Clockwork is the most Rock n Roll album of 2013 if not just from its cast of guest stars (Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan, Elton John, Alex Turner, Trent Reznor and the list goes on). One of my favorite tracks is "I Sat By the Ocean", thanks to its sweet guitar and the opening line of "I sat by the ocean and drank the potion, baby, to erase you". It doesn't get more Rock n Roll than that. The album also contains "Fairweather Friends" which I consider the most beautiful song Homme has ever written. The culmination of the music (bolstered by Sir Elton John's piano) and vocals at the end of the song gives me goose bumps. This album is a must listen for anyone in doubt that Rock is still alive and kicking.
