Trivium: Ranking All 9 Albums From Worst To Best

4. In Waves

For some unfathomable reason, In Waves has never been praised as the perfect continuation of Shogun's powerful stature it clearly is.

As a song, the title track saw the band bring in just the right amount of djent influences for one of the bounciest intros they'd ever written. The album was also the first time Matt Heafy allowed Corey Beaulieu and Paolo Gregoletto to record vocals alongside his own, resulting in the album debut of former single - the simply perfect, Shattering The Skies Above.

As a foray into even heavier territory, Dusk Dismantled, A Skyline's Severance and Chaos Reigns were all gutteral as hell scream-fests, silencing the naysayers that had been wondering when the band were going to push the boundaries of sonic heaviness once again.

Thankfully, they didn't stop there. Caustic Are The Ties That Bind, Black, Forsake Not the Dream and A Grey So Dark are all complete bangers - perfect blends of technical showmanship and mass appeal songwriting that exemplify why Trivium deserve to own stages up and down the land.

For whatever reason, In Waves didn't land as positively as many think it deserved, though that isn't stopping me ranking it so high here.
