Valentine's Day: 20 Greatest Love Songs Of All Time

13. "God Only Knows" - The Beach Boys

http://youtu.be/AOMyS78o5YI It doesn't begin like a regular love song, especially one by super-sweet, California surf harmonizers. The song kicks off with, €œI may not always love you€€ way to kill the mood, boys. The song was recorded in 1966 and even though the message was familiar (forever love) the delivery was not. Underneath the doo wop harmonies and French horns are some pretty maudlin lyrics: If you should ever leave me/ Life would still go on believe me/ The world could show nothing to me/ So what good would living do me. It€™s a great song that says, €œI€™d die without you, but I won€™t be a Debbie Downer about it.€ Believe it or not, they almost didn€™t use the word €œGod€ in the title (it wasn€™t common in commercial songs at the time).
