2. Cecil The Lion
You're not provocative, you're just insensitive.
The death of Cecil the Lion - lured out of his preserve and shot by an American dentist on a hunting trip abroad - resulted in protests around the world. The fact that there are not one, but two costumes available this year based on the incident - one of the dentist, decked out in blood and gore, and the other a "sexy Cecil" outfit - speaks to just how desperate to latch onto current events costume makers are.
Frankly, this could have been called simply a "sexy lion" costume, and no one would bat an eye. After all, the sexy kitty thing has been done for years. However, attaching the Cecil name to it is just in poor taste. Especially since a more realistic Cecil costume would probably involve blood and bullet holes. That would make it decidedly less sexy however.
