9. The Wizarding World Was At War During WWII

Warner Bros.If you read carefully between the lines in earlier books, you can see that the Wizarding World were at another all-out war before Lord Voldemort was even in the picture, this one at the same time we Muggles were waging one: when we had WWII and Hitler, the wizards principle aggressor in their WWWII was Gellert Grindelwald, the second-worst (or would it be best?) Dark wizard of all time. The two wars occurring at the same time fed each other, according to Rowling; and conveniently, any magical breaches into the Muggle world would go unnoticed as both worlds plunged into chaos. But other than the timeline, the conditions of Grindelwalds rise to power and subsequent fall also cleverly parallel our own history. It was said in the first book that Grindelwald was defeated by Dumbledore at the height of his power in 1945. Prior to his defeat, he was said to have found Muggles to be inferior and desired to subjugate them for the greater good of them and of Wizarding society. Sound familiar at all?
