10 American Restaurant Chains That Need To Come To The UK
3. Denny's
We've mentioned previously that an American diner concept entering the UK market would make a big splash and you don't really get a more generic or wide ranging diner chain in the United States than Denny's. They're almost exclusively franchise-driven which would allow for greater flexibility in the marketplace and hopefully to allow for locals to open the restaurants up where they think they would do well. However, introducing a restaurant like this through a franchise sale can prove dangerous as the rollout across the country can very quickly become stagnant especially if they open initially in Essex. So far we've had Taco Bell slow to a death there (because the UK can't support more than three Taco Bells... seriously?) and Outback Steakhouse opened two restaurants nearby, didn't expand and closed afterwards. But why Denny's? Well firstly in the US, some out of town restaurants are open 24 hours a day, so you can buy a steak at 3 in the morning. Certainly the food at a Denny's isn't ground breaking or earth shattering but it is a taste of the United States that isn't easy to get hold of in Britain. However, an appearance of Denny's or our following entrant would probably mean that there wouldn't be room in the market for IHOP, so we can't have everything!
