10 Awesome Playgrounds That Will Make You Want To Be A Kid Again
7. Parque Gulliver - Valencia, Spain
Parque Gulliver is one of Valencia’s best playgrounds. The unique park was created by architect Rafael Rivera, artist Manolo Martin and designer Josep Vicent “Sento” Llobell Bisbal and recreates a famous scene from Johnathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels. In the novel, the giant Gulliver lands in Lilliput and the tiny people of the nation are horrified by him. So, like a pack of scavenging compsognathi, the people knock down Gulliver and tie him up.
The park’s features are actually built into the herculean Gulliver figure. Hidden steps guide children and adults into multiple levels and on to various slides. Climbing ropes “bind” his arms to the ground. The play space was spruced up in 2012 and Gulliver got new paint and additional nets and ropes were added to meet public demand.
It’s awesome to see a playground that brings together public art and literature all in one free location.
