10 Best High Sci-Fi Universes In Fiction
8. Battlestar Galactica
When it comes to Battlestar Galactica, it probably wouldn't have made it onto this list were it not for the 2004 reboot. While the 1978 series had its charm, it was still a very cheesy and generic science fiction romp that didn't turn too many heads. However, its rise to becoming one of the most dangerous, complex and compelling properties in sci-fi proves that seconds chances are everything.
Battlestar Galactica takes place in a universe that has been devastated by a robotic army known as the Cylons. These terrifying machines have destroyed the Twelve Colonies that host the human population and brought them to the edge of extinction. In response, they search for the fabled thirteenth colony known as Earth.
If you aren't familiar with this franchise, then you can probably still tell that these cybernetic antagonists are some of the most terrifying in sci-fi. However, their power isn't limited to mindless violence, as they are also plenty capable of deception and manipulation, making them an utterly unstoppable force.
Seeing humanity explore the reaches of space is usually a wholesome and inspiring experience. Still, the pessimism and harsh reality of this world show that the stars might not be our salvation.
