10 Best High Sci-Fi Universes In Fiction
7. Halo
If you want to talk about player empowerment, it doesn't get much better than climbing into the shoes of John-117, otherwise known as Master Chief. The Halo gaming series was an early foundation of the first-person shooter genre, but it should also be remembered for creating one hell of a sci-fi identity that didn't begin and end with the iconic protagonist.
Halo is based in a universe that is filled to the brim with war and battle. Humanity has created a collection of super-soldiers known as Spartans who are involved in an open conflict with The Covenant, an alien race who worship an ancient civilisation known as The Forerunners. The series takes you through the ins and outs of this war and presents some even grander enemies that pose a much larger threat known as The Flood.
One of the most iconic pieces of world-building outside the Spartans is the Halo Array, a group of megastructures created by The Forerunners to study the Flood. The breathtaking moment you see one of these structures for the first time is primed to give you goosebumps.
There are so many dynamics to this world, and they all centre on these massive creations as The Covenant worship them religiously, and humanity sees them as the key to their salvation.
